[edit] Thanks
Hey,
Don't really know what the heck I'm doing here, but I guess if I do it and do it wrong someone will say so. Just want to say "thanks" for helping on BEAT (FILM) section. I add what referrences. Thanks, Yomangani. marc
[edit] Invite to Project sharks
Hi!
I have wanted to start a project with the purpose to improve our shark related articles for a long time, but never though we had enough people, now after all the nice collaboration on the Shark attack page I must take the chance of inviting you to try to start up a project sharks. I have had the preliminary writeup on my user page for a long time, please visit, update and edit as you see fit and I hope that you will consider joining. I do not have as much time for wikipedia as I would like to and the next 2-3 weeks will be almost no time, but I still try to get this project running, please join and please invite as many others as you know that might be interested. Thanks. Stefan 14:09, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shark project case
OK, now Im not sure, Project Fish states
Common names
Common names should be written in sentence case rather than title case, following normal English usage and that of FishBase. (This contrasts with the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Birds, which follows ornithologic practice in using title casing for bird common names.) Use, for example, "largemouth bass", not "Largemouth Bass". Note that geographical or personal names which form part of a fish's common name remain capitalized, hence "Guadalupe bass" (in reference to the Guadalupe River in Texas) or "White Cloud Mountain minnow" (in reference to White Cloud Mountain in China).
So I must agree that I did not read that good enough ... so is Oceanic a geographical name or not, I guess not but am not sure, please revert me if you think it is correct, I'm unsure, sorry, going to bed now. Stefan 16:24, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of composers by name: S
In regards to the page List of composers by name: S, as well as C, D, G, K, R, and U, each page says "Lists of solo piano pieces" at the top. There are lists of solo piano pieces by composer already for every letter of the alphabet, which include and expand on the content in the 7 pages nominated for deletion. Most Wikipedia lists have more relevant listing methods than alphabetization (that's what categories are for). For composers, this would be by era (List of Baroque composers, List of Romantic composers, etc.) and nationality (List of composers by nationality, List of French composers, etc.). Because of this I am renominating the page for deletion. Dafoeberezin3494 16:07, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- As I said I think it needs cleanup (a lot of cleanup) but I don't think alphabetical lists are necessarily a bad thing: if you have only a casual interest you may only be able to remember that somebody's name starts with an A - searching through all Romantic composers and then all Baroque composers wouldn't be that helpful then. However, I won't contest your prod (especially as that page has come up in random articles for me twice in 2 days!) Yomangani 16:20, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
At that point I would simply use the search engine if I couldn't remember somebody's name. Anyway I'm just attempting to be consistent with the rest of Wikipedia. Thank you. Dafoeberezin3494 16:29, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] shark
Then could you please find a better picture? The main image for shark, imo, should be a great white shark, which is more representative of sharks than the whitetip reef shark (not to mention the shark is farer away in that image). --DrBat 16:34, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know. Most people associate sharks with the Great White than they do any other kind. --DrBat 15:46, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's a good image. Thanks. :) --DrBat 15:55, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] FightDemBack
Thanks for that tip - I've added those in as well as some others. Any chance of a Keep from Yomangani? Drett 00:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Póvoa de Varzim
- I've read the article after your edits, and it reads great, I'm trying to trimm the article, in order to make it an FAC. thx again. --Pedro 11:21, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nukular fire?
Eh? Are you referring to anything in particular? :) - CrazyRussian talk/email 15:07, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yea, I thought so, I just couldn't remember which AfD this was on - and you were the nom. Figures. This was paraphrased from Messedrocker, btw. See ya. - CrazyRussian talk/email 15:17, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Oceanic whitetip
I've filled it out with some references and rearranged it a bit. I think with the peer review comments and the fac rules we are just about there. I'll put it up for FAC on Monday unless you see anything obviously wrong/bad. I fancy doing the Basking Shark next, what about you? Yomangani 13:23, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure, I think we should get Oceanic there first, but after that, yes lets continue, I say basking, whale and tiger are all articles that I would like to get to FA status, but lets go for basking next! Stefan 02:49, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have now put up postings on the fish project and on various contributors to Oceanic whitetip shark page, to get them to review and update, maybe wait a bit more than Monday to submit to FA, you should see in history if any of them starts to update. Stefan 03:13, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Lets hope for the best!!! I added support, but it is worth nothing since I have so many edits to the article!!! Stefan 15:33, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for updating the comments from FA so fast, I do not have the time nor resources to do that, very good job!!!!! I think it will get support now!!! Stefan 15:26, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Lets hope for the best!!! I added support, but it is worth nothing since I have so many edits to the article!!! Stefan 15:33, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that was me who added the Jacques Cousteau reference on the Oceanic whitetip shark page several months ago; however, I no longer have the book. (Also, it was in French, so I'm not sure we could make an authentic match of the page numbers to the English version.) I noticed that one of the templates in the article is called Footnotes. Take a look at two other featured articles Tooth development and Tooth Enamel (I use these as examples because of their technical excellence). That particular template is called Notes, as it is in 90% of Wikipedia. (Only about 10% of the time is the template called Footnotes.) The people who review these articles for featured status will likely notice and criticize that.--Hokeman 16:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Skyteam hubs
I was considering a merge, but I realized the information is already on the Skyteam destinations article. The list has hub or focus city next to the appropriate airports. If any are missing, please do fill them in, but having a separate article just repeats the information. Dbinder (talk) 03:22, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

He is trying to poison the well. I spent a lot of time writing the structure of that proposal. I did it in good faith, to try to help resolve disputes that I was not part of, but which Tony was. The thanks I get is more rudeness from him. I won't stand for it. I'm sorry to appear aggressive, but he goes too far. SlimVirgin (talk) 00:18, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. I appreciate it. SlimVirgin (talk) 00:30, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Some balance required here. Not only does she appear to be aggressive: she is being aggressive, as far as I can see. Tony 01:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] thx!
Thanks for you kind words. Yeah, I'm over it, but I'm determined that their little plot to knobble the review process not succeed. Tony 10:50, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Tony, you are deliberately keeping this going with comments like the above, yet at the same time representing yourself as the innnocent victim of a flame war, and telling me you really hope we can stop this. That is very disingenuous.
- There is no "little plot"; there is no "their"; and I am not trying to "knobble" the review process. Quite the reverse in fact. I wasn't involved in the bizarre dispute you got yourself into on Hilary Putnam, and I'm the one who created the proposal page and have written most of it. The two things are unconnected, except that it was my witnessing that dispute that made me realize how badly this process is out of step with what happens elsewhere on Wikipedia. I therefore tried to help to resolve the dispute by putting up this proposal, and you supported it, then suddenly turned on me without warning. Don't think you can do that to people without attracting a response in kind. SlimVirgin (talk) 13:47, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- It would be nice if we could put the whole Hilary Putnam thing to one side. I think if anything is poisoning the well, that is it. Tony is coming under a lot a criticism for his comments there, and when everybody seems to agree that the FAC got out-of-hand it seems unfair to repeatedly quote his comments back to him and ask him to defend the semantics. On the other hand, the "little plot" comment was tactless at best. Maybe we can draw a line under the exchanges up to now and start afresh (since you both seem to respect each others talents in the wider arena).
- SlimVirgin, I think you can see that I disagree with the scope of WP:REVIEW, but I hope you feel I'm disagreeing in a constructive manner. Yomangani 14:05, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] New lead
- Hi, I've written a new lead to the article Póvoa de Varzim, do you want to review it? I’ve also changed some parts of the text; I’ll put it again to be Peer Reviewed in order to get FA. A new throughout review by you would be greatly appreciated.--Pedro 18:16, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- you said: what sort of instability? political geological, war?
No one exactly knows what sort of instability lead to the built up of the Castro culture, but it is said, that every early civilization (with the population living together in a place - a city) is due to instability, they live together to protect themselves, and thus leading to specialization of the population, some become farmers, others sheperds, others craft metals, others become priests, etc. it is believe that the instability was widespread lootings and attacks. As it is explained in the history section.--Pedro 11:16, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- seems much better, the "Stone Civilization" thing is just a matter of style, but because it uses the term "civilization" I've added the author that used that term for this culture. As the word civilization can not be used for every culture.--Pedro 12:00, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oops sorry. See: [1] It is not really "Stone Age Civilization", it is a "Civilization of stones", because they left us a lot of stones (ruins) and most of their work was on stones. Plz correct what's necessary.--Pedro 13:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- i've done a significant organisation change in the article. I've also asked the city hall to give some people's pictures, they said they would help and for me to choose the pictures that I want and i'm waiting for their answer and choosen licence.--Pedro 13:47, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

<blush> Thanks for your kind words. Just writing a section on listing technique, which involves a surprisingly large proportion of text when defined broadly. I'll be interested in your feedback when it's finished.
"Some very young frogs may very rarely be seen hopping on a wide variety of plants"—we could play with this. "On rare occasions, early juvenile frogs have been observed hopping on the branches and leaves of plants". That will need you to pla with it further, perhaps. Tony 01:17, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject
First — I didn't know the other existed and
Second — I do NOT want to remove all the work I done OVER 3 DAYS.
Lenny 09:44, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Technically your project doesn't exist yet as it hasn't got a wikipedia:WikiProject prefix. So if I merged with your project, the project or your project wont exist and it will have been a waste of time, do you understand that? Lenny 09:55, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
No I don't but shouldn't the project founder be defending his project? I am defending mine. Lenny 10:36, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Im sorry if this sounds harsh (ha) but I REFUSE to let a member decide lets let the founder decide - Stefan. Lenny 10:53, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
PS: To make a request use template 4 and add it to simple requests on the requests page. I am trying eerything possible to get my project to work, its all worked out. All the project pages, templates and more. I refuse to let you delete any of this and after removed template 1 I have got really mad. WPShark is up. Lenny 10:59, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Of course it is my position to defend my project. I will accept stefans suggestions if I wanted to. Lenny 11:31, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I suggest that we merge! Stefan 17:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I created 'my', project sharks 14 october 2005, anyone that wanted to find it could easily do so by a simple search! I have been trying to find members since then, since a project needs many contributing members to be worth the effort I have waited to make it 'official', the official policy suggests Generally, a WikiProject should involve at least 3-5 articles and have at least 5 editors involved before it is really worth the time and effort to set up a Wikiproject structure, so I did wait. I do not want to fight, I just want to make wikipedia have the best shark articles! I do not understand why you do not discuss this on the talk page of your project, wikipedia is all about consensus, you do not own anything, even if I started the project sharks that does not mean that I decide, everytihng in wikipedia is published under GNU Free Documentation License, I have argued with Yomangani, we discussed and he convinced me that he was right, and I'm sure we will argue again, and I am sure I will 'win' some other time :-), nevermind all is about wikipedia, not my pride or 'my' shark project! All you did was state that you would have your project up and running soon, no discussion. What do you want? To run a project? or write articles? What I want is to have likeminded people to discuss, to help, to get help from to make the shark articles in wikipedia very good!!! If you want the same thing please help us in Wikipedia:WikiProject Sharks, if you want to run a project on your own then keep your project.
- Also you do not need to remove any work that you have done, merge it, copy/paste! Do you think I want to remove the work I have done over the last 10 months, lets use the best of what all of us have done, some of 'my' project is better, some of 'yours' is better, (some of 'yours' is copied from 'mine' :-), lets use the best of both in one place?
- Also also, I have both bot flag and autowikibrowser rights, so to add project tags on articles I can do very fast and easy, why spend so much time doing it manually? Discuss and ask for help!
- Also I am moving house so I will pack my computer soon, and will not be able to do much updates for a few days, but in general I will always give in to consensus and I will always discuss. Take it easy! Stefan 17:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hum that was the wrong talk page :-) Stefan 17:06, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I know, should be on project talk page, I answered to what he said therefore reply on your page :-), nevermind going to bed now, let hope we can work together, two competing projects would be very bad, and I do NOT want to have 3:rd party mediate, that is not worth it, I rather have 2 projects, we can still do good in 'my' :-) project. Stefan 17:14, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I and da Stefan have come to a dicision. if you want to run a project on your own then keep your project - agreed. and I was going to edit the WikiProject Shark page, but I think he would take that as an act of aggression yes I would. Lenny 18:15, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- PS: Can I put my template back now? Lenny 18:18, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I dont know where this problem will come to but in the mean time BOTH projects will stay running and BOTH templates will be on articles if needed. Lenny 07:48, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Whats going on with stefan? As soon as he got his mouse on my modified logo he suddenly stopped talking! Lenny 12:37, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Something else I know is that if this combi-ject works it will be one of the greatest projects on wikipedia! Lenny 12:54, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- My new super size, great (white) logo is now on my project page (shark). Feel free to use it on your project page, when stefan gets back we will merge the two BUT ONLY AFTER HE RETURNS. Lenny 15:02, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FA changes
I'll be sure to let you know before I do it. I'm still making sure we get all the bumps hammered out before I implement the changes. If we make 10 changes and somebody who didn't put in their opinion soon enough had a problem with 1, the implementation of the other 9 might get delayed longer due to reverts while continued discussion went on. I just want to make sure everything's kosher to everybody. Ryu Kaze 00:16, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hey. If no one finds anything else wrong with the proposed changes to the featured article criteria within the next 24 hours, I'm going to implement the changes (at 19 August 14:00 UTC). Make sure your new steps to FA page is ready if you want to implement its changes simultaneously. I still think that placing "(optional)" beside of the GA steps would be the best way to go, by the way. The list is more for the benefit of the uninitiated who have no familiarity with FA after all, so — while it could potentially improve the article and make the FAC easier if they got GA first — they should be aware of which steps they do and don't need to consider. That's my only gripe with it, though. Ryu Kaze 14:01, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- That will probably work. Ryu Kaze 14:14, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, have you reviewed the proposed changes to FA criteria one more time to make sure it's all okay to you? Ryu Kaze 14:15, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I wanted to be sure everybody would be happy with it. This is the basis by which we determine what is and isn't our very best work, so I thought every concern should be considered.
- And, yes, most definitely I would like to change the page name to "Wikipedia:Featured article criteria". "Wikipedia:What is a featured article?" just sounds way too much like something that you'd expect to see in Wikipedia:FAQ. This new title gets right to the point and just makes more sense, really. Ryu Kaze 14:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Good point. I'd like to just go ahead and rename his page, but I don't want to put my hands in somebody else's stuff. I think I'll make a link that goes to "2a" but is named "1a", then ask him if I can move his page to its new location. Ryu Kaze 14:31, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, have you reviewed the proposed changes to FA criteria one more time to make sure it's all okay to you? Ryu Kaze 14:15, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- That will probably work. Ryu Kaze 14:14, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taiwanese aborigines
Hi Yomangani,
Thanks for your efforts in the feedback forum. I think this is definitely a labor that is beneficial to newbies such as myself.
Some sections of the Taiwanese aborigines are still still relatively unaltered from before I began editing. If you compare the current version to the one before I began (link in the feeedback forum), you can easily see those. The original poster and I plan to get to those later. The Japanese section is what I was working on last night, and so looks a bit sketchy. Some other sections are basically finished. My questions, though, are pretty much the usual.
My questions/requests for suggestions are:
- Of course, what do you significantly like/dislike?
- Is it too long and if so, what could be cut out [from anywhere, not just recently edited sections]? Bear in mind that it is almost certainly gonna get even longer when we start editing the untouched sections. What information seems distracting, or unrelated, or too detailed, or...?
- What about the introduction (above the table of contents)?
I dunno what else to ask; in fact one of the main reasons for requesting feedback was so that others could point out problem areas that I cannot see.
Thanks! Ling.Nut 13:40, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi
Hi again. I'll read that article today after relaxing a bit on the beach. I managed to get some pictures from the city hall I'll see where I can put them. I was impressed, they helped me a lot with pictures, they even search for dates of photography, as there was no info. The city has many french tourists - due to word-spreeding by northern Portuguese in France (and some Spanish), but not much English-speaking people. Maybe it is because of that. I'm not getting a lot of reply to the FAC also, at least it is now a GA.--Pedro 13:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your bot
Yes, I can do that, in principle it must be re-approved, but as long as it is not bad edits I think it will be ok, I think my task list was something like make shark articles more common and this falls into that bracket so it is ok. Unfortiunately my bot is not working after changes in the wikipedia bot pages, I need to upgrade to the latest version of pywikipedia, I have started that work but not finnished yet. I will fix it in a 1-2 weeks ok. Or I think I can do it with autowikibrowser, anyway I promise to fix it, if you can wait 1-2 weeks. Stefan 10:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Done for all articles in category sharks with a taxobox, I did not add to the rest since I'm not sure where to add and it takes long time even with AWB. Now there is more than 200 links to Portal sharks so it should get some notice. Stefan 14:00, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Response to what you wrote on the talk page
Well, do you think it is probable that anyone in the RM I proposed will disagree and insist on moving Bowser (disambiguation) to Bowser?? Please write so on my talk page immediately if you see a voter in the requested move has done so. Georgia guy 00:54, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Erast Fandorin
Hi, thanks for your comments on Erast Fandorin, they are very helpful. Please do read the novels, they are very entertaining. I have been studying on how to change the in-universe view to out-of-universe view. To that end I have been consulting other articles on fictional characters. It would seem that all of them, even the featured article Padmé Amidala, contain an in-universe view. Would it be enough to simply mention in which books the key events in Erast Fandorin's life are described? I'll add that anyway. Errabee 09:47, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] commons
i will upload them there too. With commons do you know if you need to upload it again to commons if it already is on wikipedia, or can you just shift it over there. --chris_huh 13:33, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gävle goat
You're right. I've seen that sum here [2] and in some other articles I can't think of right now. But going thru most of the articles it kind of end up with the sum of SEK 100,000. And because the American was fined that same amount of money, I guess they fined him for what the goat costed that year. I'm going to change the construction cost to SEK 100,000. Then closer to winter I'm thinking of dropping the city of Gävle an e-mail and ask them for the "up to date" price of the 2006 goat, and some other guestions. Thanks for polishing the article, it looks really, really good........ :) FreddyFred 13:00, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adeno-associated virus
Hi Yomangani, You suggested in feedback switching AAV to use Cite.php. I created a version in my user space with cite.php, if you've got a moment see what you think: User:RainbowCrane/Adeno-associated virus
If you've got comments let me know on my talk page or on the talk page on that article.
Thanks, RainbowCrane | Talk 04:34, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] AfD message at my talk
Thanks for responding on my talk page to my request for deletion of a page called Labotsibeni Thandile Ndwandwe of Swaziland. You say the page doesn't exist, which I readily accept in some sense, but something exists. When I click on a link for successor to Mswati II of Swaziland (link labelled Queen Thandile Ndwandwe), it goes to what I guess I will call a pseudo-page. It has a heading "Editing Labotsibeni Thandile Ndwandwe of Swaziland," then says that there is no such page but that I can create one by writing in the box below it.
Howewever, I do not want to create such a page because there was never any such person. What I would like to do is to make this pseudo-page go away and create one (or at least a stub to start) for Tsandzile Ndwandwe (there is already one for Labotsibeni Gwamile Mdluli). Maybe the thing to do is to create the erroneous page and move it to the correct name? Sorry for the inconvenience of the misplaced request. I am new to this & still learning the ropes. [edit] Sharks Portal
I realised that on some screens with some browsers the title text in the header-box can't be seen too well with it being white on a light coloured background. I thought i might just mention it rather than go in myself and change it as the colour scheme is quite a major thing and since you set this up i thought it would be nice to let you know. --chris_huh 12:31, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Also, on a similar subject, i edited a picture to make what i think might be a better image for the portal and project image: Image:Greyreefsharksmall.jpg--chris_huh 15:12, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
